Just as described, ready to go out of the box. Literally didn't have it open for 30-min out of the box and was traveling downstate using it. It has a ton of cool little features allowing you to customize it that are very simple but fun. You don't need to do any of it prior to your first use.

My wife and I get lost just about every time we go somewhere we've not been before so this was well purchased for the price. Honestly, I can't tell the difference between this refurbished unit and a brand new one, other than the price.

I probably won't use the real-time traffic updates unless I pay for internet on my phone but the bluetooth works great. It recognizes both my wife and my phone when we're in the car together, and we have the same model phones. Very easy to disable one or the other or both if you don't want to use it. Sound is clear as long as your car window's are not open.

I've already recommended this to other family and friends. Do yourself a favor and buy it.
Saved me from hassles numerous times; lousy battery life

Perhaps like many infrequent travelers, I contemplated the purchase of a GPS many times but thought the expense was more than the value I would get out of it. However, after spending 30 minutes looking for a hidden hotel late at night in a strange town, I bought this Tom-Tom... and only wish I would have done so sooner. I'm no expert on GPS so cannot speak about other units and how this model compares. All I can say is, I go to new places every couple of months and this model has helped me on every trip... by now knowing exactly when to exit freeways, what lane to get into before an upcoming turn and so on. The Tom has been worth every penny it cost me.

I still haven't set it up to speak to me through my car sound system and that will be a big improvement. The speaker on the device works well enough, but if there is much traffic noise, it can be a bit hard to understand what ol' Tom is saying. The screen and the images are satisfactory but of course I do not look at it while driving. However, I do like the available features, some of which (as I recall when doing my original research) are not loaded onto lesser models of the Tom or other comparably priced units.

So far, it hasn't given me a bad direction... very accurate in every case. My only complaint... and this is significant and common... the lousy battery life. I got around that by purchasing a car charger. I make sure when I leave the house, the Tom is fully charged, then plug it into power as soon as I get in the car. Also, when I really do not need to hear it, when I am just rolling down a long stretch of road and/or know where I am going, I power the Tom off. I believe that helps ensure it will have juice when I need it. Using this power conservation strategy, I have never had the battery die, even after a long trip with the Tom "on" for 4-5-6 hours.

In summary... reliable, good mapping, nice features, good clear verbal directions but lousy battery life.
